In a recent staff meeting for the Sunday news program \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d journalist Scott Pelley accused CBS News<\/em> head Bari Weiss of \u201cmurdering the show\u201d and grilled an executive about mass firings at the network.<\/p>\n

The heated meeting comes as CBS News<\/em> has seen a major shift rightward and increased censorship under Weiss, a right-wing commentator who was installed as editor-in-chief of the network\u2019s news division following a Trump administration-approved merger.<\/p>\n

The confrontation was first reported on by Status<\/em>, which obtained an audio recording of the introductory meeting between \u201c60 Minutes\u201d staff and the show\u2019s new executive producer Nick Bilton, who was appointed by Weiss. Bilton\u2019s hiring came shortly after Weiss fired former executive producer Tanya Simon and other correspondents for \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the Monday morning meeting, Pelley repeatedly interjected with his concerns, refusing to allow Bilton to read his prepared remarks to staff.<\/p>\n

Referring to the mass firings at the network last week \u2014 what some have dubbed \u201cBlack Thursday\u201d \u2014 Pelley asked Bilton to explain what he knew about the firings, and to provide insights regarding the future of the program. <\/p>\n

Bilton defended Weiss\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n

\u201cBari loves this institution. She loves \u201960 Minutes,’\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n

Pelley rejected that assessment. \u201cShe\u2019s murdering \u201960 Minutes,\u2019\u201d he asserted. \u201cShe does not love this place. She was brought in to kill it \u2014 and she\u2019s doing exactly that.\u201d<\/p>\n

CBS News<\/em> managing editor Charles Forelle responded by calling Pelley rude for interrupting the meeting. \u201cThis is not actually productive,\u201d Forelle said.<\/p>\n

Pelley rejected that premise, too. \u201cIt\u2019s working for me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The journalist added:<\/p>\n

\n

I\u2019m not being rude. You know what was rude? Black Thursday. That was the absolute definition of rudeness. \u2026 That was rude. This is a conversation. That is rude, and you were part of that.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The incident showcases the dysfunction at CBS, as Weiss and the new management struggle to create a profitable product while changing the tone of the network\u2019s reporting to be friendlier to President Donald Trump. <\/p>\n

Pelley\u2019s remarks come just days after student journalist Santiago Campos called out the network while being awarded the Mike Wallace Memorial Scholarship in New York City last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I want to thank CBS News<\/em> for funding this generous gift towards my education, I want to also acknowledge how the recent direction of the outlet stains the legacy of Mike Wallace, the namesake of this scholarship,\u201d Campos said. <\/p>\n

He added:<\/p>\n
